I am a huge believer in the WORKAMPING concept, and became a member of WORKAMPER NEWS well before we planned to live the lifestyle.
If you’ve read very many articles on my blog, you know that we consider paying for over night parking when we are in travel mode, to be our biggest budget buster. . .even more so than fuel costs.
In Salt Lake City we paid almost $50 per night for an overnight stay, and in Las Vegas, we paid almost $60 to park in what was basically an asphalt parking lot with hook ups.
Now those were the sacrifices we were willing to make to be right in the middle of the action. . .however, our budget cannot sustain that type of hit continually. . .so we have found that Working on the Road for a few months out of the year is a great way to offset some of that expense. If we are working in exchange for our site, we can bank the funds we would have been using, and have those available for the rest of the year. Then when we decide to stay in a high rent, tourist area for a few days, we can fall back on the funds were able to put into savings just for those occasions.
As much of a believer as I am in WORKAMPER NEWS, and I consider myself to be one of their most ardent supporters. . .sometimes, there are just no jobs being offered in the area I choose to be in. . .so what I have started doing is compiling my own list of places who hire work campers or seasonal workers.
MY LIST, Seasonal Job Websites is a work in progress, and as we plan our travels, I add to it and take stuff away from it all the time. . .but I thought you might like to see it. . .and I certainly don’t mind sharing.
As far as I’m concerned, there is more than enough work out there for all of us, and then some. Not only that, but I guarantee you, every single season, in every area of the country, workers report for their assignments, and then bail out, leaving vacancies and assignments almost any where you want to go. . .IF you are willing to make the effort.
That is what my list is all about. . .being willing to make the effort. . .so check back often. . .it will be constantly changing, growing, shrinking, etc. . .but maybe an area of the country that you want to be in will be on there, and, there you go. . .you will have a golden opportunity!
